FAQ's

We know you have questions (we are talking about your kids, of course).  We have some answers below, but we can't anticipate all your amazing questions.  That said, make sure you sign up for our newsletter and don't hesitate to ping us with additional questions - let's be honest - you aren't the only parent wondering.

FAQs:

Q: What grades do you serve?

A:For the first year of our launch in Lake Norman, we plan to launch with  junior kindergarten through 4th grade, and in five to six years, we hope to be junior kindergarten through 12th grade adding additional grades on an annual or biannual basis.

Q: Are you an in-person school or an online school?

A: Both!  We offer the flexibility of online school with two days per week of in-person support, mentoring, activities, guest speakers, and top-notch extracurriculars.

Q: What if our child is not able to make the in-person days?

A: We are parents too so we understand! We can offer virtual mentoring.

Q.  Where are you located in Lake Norman?

A:  We are in the final stages of selection.   We will be in a central location for the region.  For what it’s worth, we are exceptionally picky about our venues.  We like the venue to be special - some places we leverage in other markets include:  renovated barns, new community centers with ample outdoor space, creative centers at retirement communities and/or community club houses  (often with access to pools, tennis courts, trails, etc.).  Because we know proximity is important, we plan to announce our Lake Norman pilot year location by the end of February.  To be the first to know, follow us on instagram and sign up for our newsletter.

Q: What are some of the learning pathways our children can choose?

A: The possibilities are endless!  We help pursue interdisciplinary pathways in entrepreneurship, theater, cryptocurrency, game development, and veterinary medicine, just to name a few.

Q: Do you cover core curriculum or just electives?

A: We cover core curriculum courses like reading, writing, and arithmetic, generally at a pace of 150% of learner growth, weaving them in with your child’s chosen area of interest in learning pathways, for an interdisciplinary approach.

Q: Do you offer sports teams?

A:  Until we have a middle school, we will be offering extracurriculars without outside competition involved, but beginning when we have a middle school, we plan to partner with existing private schools for those who want to participate in competition.

Q:  Do you use standardized curriculum?

A:  Along with our pathways, we make sure all our students are following state-standardized curriculum and we measure their success constantly. Tools like IXL allow us to monitor what skills have been mastered by the day.  So instead of learning at the end of a semester that your child is struggling with language arts, you will have the visibility to see that your child has an aptitude for subject verb agreement, but could use extra practice in identifying an adjective versus an adverb. Even better, you will know what skills we need to tackle by the day. Because we love technology, the tools we use are dynamic and ever-changing.

Q:  Are there attendance requirements for the school?

A:  Not at all, we encourage families to travel (even take sabbaticals in other countries, etc.). When in town, we want your children to be there on Wednesday/Thursday because we know we will love them and so will all their classmates.

Q:  Can you help us navigate any paperwork involved in the home school component of your program?

A: You won't need to do any additional paperwork as we are a private school.
